Shellseeker

Recommended Posts

I tend to track some high end auction sites that deal in (sometimes) complete fossil skeletons. One of these is offering a Dire Wolf Skull. Since it is a for sale site, I do not link to it.  However, the seller does provide DETAILED Photo enhancement capability, and the writeup is excellent.

So, TFF forum rules, can I cut/paste the photos and the text to this TFF thread for all to evaluate?

This would certainly fall into fair use of the materials, even if copyrighted, which I doubt.

I think I have a piece of this but not that big of a piece...

Well even a piece of that thing is super rare to get in my eyes

If you're a fossil nut from Palos Verdes, San Pedro, Redondo Beach, or Torrance, feel free to shoot me a PM!

Definitely some nice things in that up coming auction, I was actually browsing it this morning!  If you haven't purchased from one of these high end auction houses before just be sure you understand the buyers premium- typically you pay an additional 20-25% of your max bid to the auction house.  They also are always very helpful when you email them for more information and pictures about the lots you're interested in before the auction.

That's an impressive skull. I didn't know dire wolf skulls were so rare.

The only place where Dire Wolf Skulls are common is on the wall of the George Page Museum at La Brea, where they have a mind-bogglingly numerous display of skulls. Every time I see the pictures I can't help but think "can't they let me have just one?"

It’s like fossil porn

Yes Sully,  that is exactly with I thought as I blanched at the price tag.. I had not recalled seeing the perfection of this skull anywhere, and I wanted to hang on to it, just in case I found another jaw segment, carnassial, canine, etc...

and knew I would post it here for sharing with those who might appreciate it as I do.  Thanks to all for good comments on this one..
