Actinocrinites? Mineral?

Badia

Recommended Posts

Hi!

I always post specimens that may be just minerals... which are the real difficult ones for me to identify. I would like to ask you what do you think about this one. It was found near the other two specimens I posted before, one of them seem to be a baryte nodule and the other one we still do not know for sure. It was found in Santorcaz, NE Madrid province, Spain, in a site where miocene fossils have been found, and where we can still find many limestones which originated in an old lake. I think this may be... only may be... part of an actinocrinites called "calyx" (?). Thank you all!

Crinoids would not naturally have been found in fresh water.

And this doesn't look like a fossil of any kind, to me.  :(

Unfortunately, it doesn't resemble the crinoid morphology and the temporal range exceeds the limit for Actinocrinites, not saying that a lacustrine environment would not be proper for that, as it was stated.
Can we see the opposed side of it? :)

@Badia. Have you looked at this under magnification? It's possible there are pieces of fossils in it.

I too would like to see other side.

Hi! Thank you so much everyone! I did cut-open the rock. In case of doubt, I was advised once to do so. There was nothing inside, no pattern, nothing! I am afraid it is just a beautiful rock! I can still take some pictures tomorrow and post them. Let me know...

Thank you for your interest, ynot! Here you can find a few more pictures of the same specimen. Yes, I did take a look at it with a magnifier and, in my opinion, there is nothing indicating micro-fossils, etc. If you take a look at the inside, it does not look like a septarian either, does it? Please let me know your opinion.
