New but very old display cabinets

Thanks... I had help from my dad on that. But it did turn out well, it looks like a real antique now. The thing was coated in ugly grey paint when we got it, plus other problems, so you can imagine how much work was involved! I don't think I have seen any sticking drawers, but the wood is kind of soft and dry and I still wonder if it needs a protective coat of something. I guess if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Yes, that's exactly the type of map cabinets I'm talking about - only made for maps, not rock!

Here's the shelf with the copper replacing the glass in one of the doors after I cleaned it up took the copper out and install the lights.

Can't wait to get back from a work trip and fill fossils.still can't believe I got this one for $120!!!

I'd say you found a great deal.  It looks like it's quite a large cabinet too.

Photo of all three I picked up.

The third (left) still needs to be cleaned and touched up. Also still needs lights .

From left to right $175, $120, $140. Nicer and significantly the cheaper than the junk I almost bought from Ikea.

A cabinet that's 59x60 cubits would be a small house :ighappy:

Absolutely beautiful! That’s my kind of style. If I had more room in my house I would be looking out for more like these.

My home office is a good excuse for a fossil dedicated room.

My dining room is basically my fossil room. B) Mainly because that’s where my nice cabinets are and one of the larger rooms in my house.

Hey Dom, it the display unit you have the tail verts in some kind of frameless membrane holder?

You also got killer deals on your cabinets, congrates!

I seriously doubt you could even touch comparable cabinets around here for less than $300-$400 each.

You can't usually touch them around here for less than $400 either.

Just took patience and good negotiation to get them for those prices.

The Champsosaur composite tail is attached to a peice of plexiglass with museum wax.

It won't harm the verts and if I tire of it this way like that it's easy to clean off.

One more of the new cabinets is filled.

One more new cabinet to fill. I just'll tackle that tomorrow.

I was curious about this picture.  I assume that they are fossils left in the matrix.  I tried to zoom in on the picture but couldn't tell still.  Fantastic collection and great displays.

They look like hash plates. In the ‘members collection’ of the forum check the ‘# plates’ thread :)
