I had to look up 'beekite'.  I had never heard of this before.  Seems they can be on many different fossils.   This one that blackmoth has is very very nice!

How thick is it? I see a lot of beekite altered fossils, but I have never seen anything translucent like this. Very cool!

Beekite is usually a silica replacement of calcite, so this mineralized steinkern must have been originally completely calcified before it was altered. It would be interesting to know where this is from.

Thanks a lot for all replies.  I have never heard of beekite before. This photo is from a friend of mine. He could not ID it as the details are gone. but the beauty is the value.
