SEWis-Fossils
A friend of mine gave this to me along with some other random geological specimens. It was from a collection he inherited, and he doesn't know where it came from. Just trying to get an idea of what this ammonite is called and and maybe what period it's from. FossilDAWG
The general aspect suggests one of the Scaphites species, such as Scaphites hippocrepis or Scaphites warreni (not saying for sure it's either of those though). Note that the living chamber (the part of the shell without suture lines) has a straight section before it curves back towards the rest of the shell. This is typical of Scaphites, and contrasts with other ammonites that form a gradually expanding coil with later whorls partly covering earlier whorls. If it is a Scaphites, it would be Upper Cretaceous in age. Don
