caldigger
A recent online purchase. The only thing I know is it was shipped from China. Any chance on at least some sort of ID beyond "insect"? Seller doesn't give any information on it.
Al Tahan
For some reason I though China got strict on shipping fossils outside the country? I thought I heard somthing like China now considers their fossils “national treasure” Cool fossil either way!

Fossildude19
I'm going to have to respectfully disagree with the Grasshopper ID. I see no evidence of the backward positioned rear legs one would expect on a grasshopper or cricket. Only 2 legs appear to be visible. I do see what appears to be a wing or wings. Not sure there is enough detail to ID it further than insect. 2 Tim - VETERAN SHALE SPLITTER VFOTM - APRIL - 2015 __________________________________________________ "In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks." If it comes down to just "insect" for a label, I guess I can live with that. Thank you everyone that has given a look see and tried to give this little "bugger" a name. RJB
Looks very much like a grass hopper with missing hind legs. RB

You might end up with 14 cents worth of blank 2 tone rock. The whole "bug" looks like it could have been painted on, at least to me. Mike from North Queensland
Is the fossil enhanced as it appears to be shown on at least two different layers. There are only two legs but others could be missing or hidden. there are two distinct colours in the fossil. I would like to hold this in the hand to be sure and I hope I am wrong. My suspicion is we have the outline of a leaf leaving some staining. That would make this art on a common plant fossil and a legal export. the insect would be a Leafcutter. caldigger
Ah well, real or not, 14 cents isn't going to break me.
