Nice to see that chunk of root. You don't see roots often enough in JRF tyrannosaurs

  • I found this Informative 1

Looking forward to meeting my fellow Singaporean collectors! Do PM me if you are a Singaporean, or an overseas fossil-collector coming here for a holiday!

Hey Andy, thanks for the kind words.  I have been going back and forth on getting it prepped out.  I'd love to fit this in that riker I am making but at the same time I love fossils in original matrix.

Is there any way to make the matrix thinner so it can still fit in the riker?

I'd suggest using a small floating frame for it. That should work with the matrix as is.

This is the approach I was thinking of taking. There’s a big chunk of matrix on the back so if I trim it down some it should be able to fit in the riker box.

Ive used the floating frames before and am a big fan! The matrix has some jagged edges however, have you had experience of the membrane tearing?

I think the beauty of this tooth is enhanced in the matrix.   Rikers come 2" thick.

Did you mean Liberty County.?

Nice catch, yes I mean Liberty County. Found on the eastern part of the county. The riker I have is 2” thick so it would fit but the matrix blocks takes up so much unnecessary space.

I've never put anything sharp in one, so have had no problems, but you could just file the matrix down a bit and round it off.

Beautiful JRF tooth

Thanks @Troodon forgot to add but it’s 1.2”.

Which positional teeth did you say may be identifiable from the JRF?

Very nice, a great acquisition to a Tyrannosaur tooth collection:thumbsu:

Life started in the ocean. And so did my interest in fossils;).
