Is this what it looks like? ..... a crayfish?
found in gravel drive west of Houston texas
gravel from Brazos River.

and from the looks of the shape of the stone there could be more lurking inside....sorry about photo quality

will take more with good camera later am having a problem getting the photos to upload from camera.

Not seeing a crayfish, or any fossil here, unfortunately. :(

I also just see a rock with possible tiny shell fragments, but they may be quartz. 

Can't see a fossil.

My two cents:is it just me,or is there nothing crustacean about this?

I can see how someone could think this could be a vertebrate cranium,but,gee..

You're thinking mold fossil with the claw leaning toward the coin ?

It would indeed be an extraordinary fossil. As such it will require extraordinary evidence though.

Still cannot discern anything fossiliferous in the stone.  :(

Looks totally geologic to me, as in a water worn rock.

Don't know much about history

Don't know much about science books.........

I can see it being the badly eroded remains of a shell. I can even imagine it having been a crustacean claw.

The problem is that I can also see it being a mineral layer that I can imagine these things being in. :)
