Acid prep on oil shale fish?

I saw  reference to something called  "acid prep" for oil shale fish.... never heard of it, and would like to know more: what kind of "acid", and how is it used.

ALSO-- I mainly  want info on the prep of fish found in cretaceous Pierre shale-- the black, crumbly stuff.

Anyone?

Acid Preparation.

 

Acid preparation is not something to take up lightly.  :( 

Good ventilation hoods, protective gear and goggles are a must. 

Better done in lab environments.
