Real or Fake Fossil?

Howdy Partners 

 

Wanted your opinion on whether or not this fossil is real or fake. The fossil is labeled "Centrosaurus bone" from the Judith River Formation.

Looks real bone to me, but no idea how they think it's Centrosaurus, unless it is a part of something bigger which has been definitely identified. 

We call this Chunkosaurus, bone but could be from any large reptile.

I agree it is bone, but that is about as far as I’d go with any ID. 

Although there are some places if you find bone material there are very high odds it is from a particular genus that is prevelant in the area, but it usually isn’t definitive by any means. 

The acrylic display is probably more valuable than the chunkosauris piece.

I agree with my fellow colleagues and would just keep looking. Theres are better deals out there with proper identifications.

Real bone as the others have said. But the only way this could have been identified as Centrosaurus is if it was actually found on a more complete bone or skeleton of a Centrosaurus. Chunks like these on their own don't have any identifiable features and can't be IDd any further.
