Keichousaurus round 3 (Fight!)

Recommended Posts

BlindFool

Greetings all,

I have found a third interesting keichousaurus. Compared to the other two I think this one looks better in my opinion. But as per usual I don’t have experience with keichousaurus so I would like some advice. Please let me know what you all think!

A less common dorsal presentation, I like that the critter's "hands" are disarticulated. I can't tell from the photo if those digits are painted or just poorly prepped (wire-brushed, as Tim suggested). In their favor, I find it odd that a forger would paint them on all cattywhompus, so to me the jumble favors authenticity. Another commonly cited factor - mineral veins run through the bones, so that also is good. In hand with a 10X loupe will reveal any paint mischief. Does the seller offer return? Good luck, have fun.

This is definitely a wire-brushed and acid prepped specimen.  I agree with Tim that it is quite poorly prepped.  In my view, the first and second specimens look better but there are better specimens out there if you could wait and look.

@Crazyhen No worries, I am in no rush. Just reporting back interesting finds to poll the class. Need to educate myself as well!

@Crazyhen I wish I could get one like that. My budget is 500$ USD but still no dice. If you have any ideas let me know. Until then the search continues!!!

Real, but very poorly prepped.

Looks to me like they used the rotary tool Wire brush method.

This tends to take as much bone as matrix away.

Also, a lot of paint was used to cover for that. Fairly typical of these.

Digits almost entirely painted. Vertebra and arm/leg bones painted.

Not real horrible, but not great, either.

Diagnostic photos to follow.

I agree...
