4 days of fossil hunting on the coast of Northern France

Looks like you were able to obtain some very nice pieces.

I try to stay away from those beaches this time of year. Way too many people sunbathing and crowding the beach.

Looks nice a very nice trip to some wonderful fossil sites :D Love the ammonites, congrats to you both on finding them!!

Am I right in thinking that one of the pictures from Boulogne sur Mer (Day 3) represents an ichthyosaur vertebra?

Thanks for sharing this really nice field report, it looks like you two had a great time!! :)

The Euaspidoceras is sweet. What was the status of the callovian layers on the beach ? I've heard that they were under the sand for most of the year ....

Congratulations on some superb ammonite and gastropod finds. Hope to see more of what you collected there. I hope to make it there someday. Oh, and by the way, some beautiful photos as well.

Thanx Christian, the vert is a shark vert, we also found a few Hybodont teeth and a spine.

Thanks, indeed a lot of the callovian was under the sand, only a little part of the top was exposed, most of the fossils we found were from the Oxfordian deposits.

Very productive spots. Nice ammonites, but I also like the snails and the multi-Trigoniid block! Good to see some members in the northern climes are still able to collect in the wintertime.

Thx Roger :) It is the best time of the year for those locations, but sadly it is getting dark verry soon, we had to get of the beaches at 5 PM because it was getting to dark

Thanks :) , the Trigoniid block is still on the beach, it was to heavy to take along, but at least I got a picture of it .

I guess that shows the difference in productivity between that site and my local site - If I had found that piece here, I would be going back with the equipment to haul it out!

Beautiful scenery and great fossils. What more can you ask for. The ammonites are awesome. Those Hybodont teeth look very similar to the ones we find here in eastern North Carolina.
