I sneaked one more trip under the wire for 2018.  Last  minute finds include 5 whole and 2 half  Flexicalamene trilobites, Ordovician, St. Leon, Indiana.

This popular site was hit hard recently as evidenced by the stampede of foot and knee pad prints.  Last night’s rain wasn’t enough to really shuffle the deck, but a couple diligent hours allowed me to scratch out ample paydirt.  No complaints.

Very neat trilos :D

Opalised fossils are the best: a wonderful mix between paleontology and mineralogy!

Was this another night hunt? It almost looks like you’re using a flash or something in the in situ shot.

Cool finds.

Cool finds.

Quite observant!  My first 2 bugs were found in the foggy pitch black parted by the beam of my headlamp.  The others may have come through headlamp assist as well post dawn, as it was a gloomy morning and I wanted to study the back pockets with forced, dynamic shadows for maximum results.

Congratulations Dan. Those rollers are swell. The small ones are super tiny. You really have the eye to spot those- headlamp or not. Did you gather up any of those well preserved brachiopods?

I found the biggest and the smallest bugs shown at night.  My eyes are getting older, so a lower, slower, and brighter approach keeps me in the game when searching for smalls.

i left all the brachs, corals, gastros and hash plates for others needing them more than I do.
