Interesting paper. I remember reading long ago about fossil plants in Liaoning, China, dating to the Early Cretaceous, but Nanjinganthus could indicate a much earlier origin for flowering plants, more effectively synchronizing the timing of the divergence of gymnosperms and angiosperms in the Triassic.
