MrBones
Hello, I have had this fossil for a few years, but I do not know what it is from. I picked it up on a beach in South Africa on the west coast, the beach is a few kilometres from a fossil park that has many similar fossils. I currently do not have the fossil so if no one can identify it due to the quality of the picture I will try again once I have the fossil. It is about 10-12 cm long. caldigger
Can you post a picture looking straight down on the chewing surface of the teeth?
MrBones
Unfortunately I don't have the fossil now, I will send another picture as soon as I get it. It is a herbivore, that's all I can say.
Fossildude19
You must be very careful about collecting in South Africa. You need a special permit to collect, and another to export, and all fossils revert back to the state for ownership. Taking fossils from there is against the law. LINK Please try to make yourself aware of the fossil collecting laws of the countries you visit. . We in no way condone unethical collecting practices. 2 Tim - VETERAN SHALE SPLITTER VFOTM --- APRIL - 2015 __________________________________________________ "In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks." MrBones
To be honest, I didn't pick it up. One of our frieinds gave it to me and said that he had found it on that beach. This was more then 6 years ago, I had no idea about the laws of fossil possession. What should I do?
MrBones
I have not altered or broken the fossil, and I have not exported it.
