Possible Bone Fragment

Hello! I’m hoping to identify this fossil I found while wandering a mesa just south of Santa Fe, New Mexico. It was laying neatly in the sand just waiting to be found. The pits on the end look very much like bone marrow. I chose to leave it at the ranch where I found it, so I only have one pic. I could get more if needed! Thanks!

Pics of the ends may change my opinion, but looks like a concretion, or possibly an burrow infilling to me to me.

Interesting! I’ll have to wait a couple of weeks for more pictures. I’m wishing I had brought it home now, such a neat find! It was pretty heavy and looked just like marrow pitting on the ends.

I agree with Adam on this. I do not think this is bone.

I agree with both members, looks like a burrow internal mold, concretion maybe. I have found several in my area which are similar. The ones which I have found are crustacean burrows.  Nice find by the way!

If it’s fairly heavy like a chunk of metal, it’s probably an iron concretion. Next time you’re by it, try sticking a fairly strong magnet to it. Sometimes they’ll stick confirming it’s iron.
