Iguanodon Humerus from the Isle of Wight

I hope you all had a good Christmas and are looking forward to the New Year.

I thought I’d treat myself to a Christmas fossil this year. It’s an iguanodon humerus (maybe Mantellisaurus now) from the Isle of Wight.

The humerus is about 700 mm long, so pretty big and heavy. I got a local blacksmith to make the stand for me and I picked it up today.

Regards

Nick

Nice fossil :) Looks even better with that stand!

Happy New Year to you too!

Opalised fossils are the best: a wonderful mix between paleontology and mineralogy!

Q. Where do dinosaurs study?

A. At Khaan Academy!...

Really nice chunk of bone there Nik, great display piece indeed.

Thanks Darren. I’m going to have to get on one of your organised trips sometime - they look great fun.

Beautiful display piece and the stand looks well crafted. You have to love Iguanodons.

Thanks. The blacksmith who made the stand was so excited to be holding a dinosaur bone. It made his day.

Thanks Bobby. I can confirm that the stand is heavier than the bone.
