KimTexan
That last one is very interesting. It seems almost strange how the septa walls almost look fluid. I never imagined them looking like that. What we see here are molds and casts. The septa walls often don’t have that much definition since most are limestone, chalk or even mud in my area. The shells in this horizon are often well-preserved, or rather exist to the present in the altered form of calcite. This allows for much better definition than the typical limestone steinkerns of your cretaceous finds, so one can get a relatively true picture of the forms of the septal walls. They are more filigrane at the center than the outer shell, which also explains why they are sometimes already dissolved away or don't hold up to abrading. This is why I had to move slowly at low pressure. Greetings from the Lake of Constance. Roger http://www.steinkern.de/

Yes an abrader would make a world of difference. You could get yourself a silent compressor, coudn't you? Or is that too expensive? Greetings from the Lake of Constance. It does a wonderful job at keeping the air clean and is no louder than a refrigerator. Here is also a German offer, which is a bit cheaper. Greetings from the Lake of Constance. Ludwigia
There were 3 more ammonites left, but 2 of them ended up in the disposal bin. As usual, I save the worst until last. At least one Macrocephalites turned out reasonably well. I managed to expose some of the septal walls again. Here again from start to finish. 2 Greetings from the Lake of Constance. This will be a project for the future, making a decent prep box with extraction and a sandblaster. 1 growing old is mandatory but growing up is optional.
