Mammal tooth or unusual mineral sample

Recommended Posts

Not sure if this is a mineral sample or a worn down tooth of some type. It was found on 1-3-2018. Height 5cm, length and width 4 1/2 cm. Definitely grooves on the top with brown color running top to bottom between the grooves. Has similar indentations on the top to a tooth. Very worn along the sides and bottom. Found on Onslow beach in North Carolina. 6A378D6F-667F-448A-A36C-D1AC3922A4EE.thumb.jpeg.6a3c17894761f2e076d48f6bf20acbc3.jpeg

Hello, and a very warm welcome to TFF from Morocco! :)

Looks like a bit of mammoth gnasher to me too!

Nice find.

Couls very well be a piece of a mammoth molar.

I agree! :)

Yup. That layered sandwich look is very indicative of mammoth molar. Even in a small tumbled chunk, that pattern remains distinctive.

Cheers.

Thanks to everyone. Mammoth was my first inclination but not having encountered one before I appreciate your input.
