JohnBrewer
I’m doing fine with a 3mp camera. Sorta depends on how big you want the images to be I guess. Here’s some images I’ve taken. 1 John Map of UK fossil sites
MJB
I second John's response. Although 3mp is all you need to capture the information in a microscope image, a 3mp camera will limit the size of the final image/print and possibly the detail that can be captured (dependent on sensor used in the camera). I currently use two Canon DSLRs (EOS 6D and T4i) and have two dedicated c-mount cameras (Moticam 10 and Jenoptik ProgRes CFscan). Although the Jenoptik does an excellent job and is an absolute pleasure to work with, it is pretty pricey even on the used market while DSLRs can be had for a reasonable sum. The DSLRs are an excellent option at this time if you don't want the measurement and other capabilities built into the dedicated camera software and you might want to consider going in that direction.
