Jaimin013
Hi everyone, Please can you let me know your thoughts on this Peloneustes portentificus pliosaur tooth, it is from Ural Mountains in Russia and is just above an inch in size? I am not sure if anyone has some nice ones in their collection but it would be cool to see if anyone does for comparison purposes. Thanks! Tidgy's Dad
Very nice and unusual tooth! I'd be delighted to compare mine with yours. But unfortunately I don't have one. 1 Life's Good! Tortoise Friend.

Haha thanks googling the species it doesn't look like a big pliosaur compared to others but it's still cool as it's from Russia.

Anomotodon
Peloneustes teeth are not even closely similar, this is an ichthyosaur, judging from the color it might be from Orenburg region. Also, check tip for restoration Compare to ichthyosaur teeth in C, striations are much weaker than in pliosaur teeth (and as in your tooth) Peloneustes, all teeth are distally recurved 2 The Tooth Fairy

The seller says that the tooth does not have any restoration but I do agree that the striations are quite weak in the tooth that I have posted.hmm..

As with my teeth, tips get most of the wear and tear, especially when I'm eating or tasting stuff in a sandy/gritty environment. Not saying there aren't issues with this specimen's tip, just saying my teeth tips (especially front) take a beating around water bodies combined with sand. 1 Don't know much about history Don't know much biology Don't know much about science books......... Definitely plausible, mine are the same as well!
SailingAlongToo
Think about it, I / we are fossil hunting ~60+ days a year / 6-10 hours any given day, but I don't crunch bones. Imagine a creature / animal in a marine environment crunching bone and "tasting" everything with it's teeth. Add in grit in suspended solids and it is like sandpaper. paulgdls
I agree with others that your tooth is probably from an ichthyosaur. The Peloneustes teeth are curved and have bold ridges. See examples below. Paul
Jaimin013
Hi thanks for confirming and showing pictures. Also got it confirmed by someone else to be an ichthyosaur as pliosaur teeth aren't hollow like the specimen I posted. Thanks all
