Lance formation matrix fun

I had picked up a box full of Lance formation matrix bits a little while ago.  This evening while in the garage I couldn't fight the urge to poke around a bit at a couple of pieces.  I probably should only focus at one at a time....but temptation.  I didn't really mess will the champsosaurus vertibrea in the matrix.

I broke out the dental picks and started to play with these chunks.

I didn't stay out there long because it doesn't have heat but there are some interesting things that are exposed.  Hopefully I can get a spot in the basement set up so I can get deeper into this.  I don't know I this fits better in the fossil hunting section or the fossil preparation section.

I have a bunch of cool fossils from the same formation and type of matrix and it's great fun trying find things in it!

Yeah from what I understand it has a wide variety from dinosaur material similar to Hell Creek to mammalian bones and teeth, and fish teeth and scales.  It should be fun and I interesting.

If I may ask, did you buy these or did you find them?

I bought them.  A seller on a certain auction site was selling small lots of material so I asked if he would combine shipping and the next thing I know we worked out a deal for roughly a shoe box full of matrix.

Certainly a nice pick up, you never know what you might find in that kind of matrix.

Here's a mostly complete triceratops tooth in a similar matrix that I found a few summers ago.

And a really nice alligator/crocodile tooth also in matrix.

Nice finds guys!

Adam, wives just love it when you utilize the dining table for fossil prepping. At least you will warm. ;)

Haha not going to fall for that one.  She jokes when the boys and I are digging around in micro fossil matrix in the dining room that we're a bunch of nerds.

Yes it is the same time period as Hell Creek.
