Fish of interest

Recommended Posts

I saw this item for sale which is of interest. Dercetis sp from Lebanon - Cretaceous.

Contacted the seller who informed me that the crack is a repair, not a composite.

Thoughts?

In my opinion it is real, it is not a compost and just was repaired.

In many fossiliferous outcrops (Upper Cretaceous, Cenomanian Stage - Hajoula Limestone - Sannine Formation) in Lebanon, the collection is handcrafted with rustic tools:

So unfortunately it is relatively normal to break one slate or another. :(

As for example, this Lebanese fish of the species Coccodus insignis which is deposited in my private collection. Note that it also broke during the extraction, but was later repaired:

Also, I have asked the seller what the fish are.

The one on the left is a Dercetis

But he doesn't know what the one on the right is.  Any ideas?

Real fish, excellent price, and the one on the right might be a Gaudryella gaudryi.

Hard to say for sure, as there is no scale in the picture, and details of the identifying characteristics may still be hidden under some shale and aren't viewable via the supplied pictures.
