DMBgirl
I am new to fossil identification and was wondering if it’s possible to identify bone fragments found on the shore? Recently there have been a lot of bone fragments along the shore of Onslow Beach, NC and I was trying to identify them. Also, I found this tooth, but haven’t ever found any this large of this shape. Is it possibly a bull shark? Thank you so much for your time
Darktooth
Not Bullshark. Its a bit worn, but it looks to be either a Mako or possibly a Sandtiger with the cusps worn off. Hard to tell with 100% confidence. 1 I like Trilo-butts and I cannot lie.

Bronzviking
Welcome to the forum from Florida. The bone looks like a piece of dugong rib.
DMBgirl
This is the end of the original bone piece. I sincerely appreciate your time. I’ll also include 2 other pieces I found in the same shell bed. I assumed they were unrelated but I don’t know anything Thank you so much

ynot
I do not see it as a bone, maybe a phosphate burrow cast. The new piece is a vert, but need more views to make a guess. The new piece is a vert, but need more views to make a guess. It is a Dugong rib. These are very common in the Oligocene formations (River Bend and Belgrade) here in North Carolina. Onslow Beach produces Oligocene fossils along with Pleistocene stuff. The other piece is a broken worn vert and I would guess is Odontocete. The tooth is extremely worn and is probably a sand tiger, but that cannot be said for sure. 1 Bulldozers and dirt Bulldozers and dirt behind the trailer, my desert Them red clay piles are heaven on earth I get my rocks off, bulldozers and dirt Patterson Hood; Drive-By Truckers May 2016 May 2012 Aug 2013, May 2016, Apr 2020 Oct 2022
DMBgirl
Wow! Thank you so much for the awesome information. I look forward to learning about them as I didn’t think they would turn up in NC. I really appreciate your time and knowledge. Thank you
