I totally agree! I spend more time correcting the autocorrect mistakes than my own.

I here you  I myself am really dyslexic and as it happens so is my autocorrect . We do are best and carry on regardless. :)

Frustrating isn't it?!

I know what I wrote, if I wanted it changed to something else I would have written it differently in the first place. Dumb 'ol autocorrect!

I think your deer bones looks great and difficult to display item. Great job. Have you thought about hanging the frame at the centre of your display? :)

Hi,

I like the idea of the shark image corresponding to the fossil ! Good idea !

Mrs R purchased this probably 1950s tin yesterday and gave me it for my fossil display . I think it is very fun item to use.

Well disaster.

I decided to reorient the leg mount so it would display foot down. I was holding the leg to measure it so I would know how high up the post needed hold the bone to allow for the placement of the foot.

I dropped the bone from just about 8 inches on to my desk and it shattered. Looks bad glued back together.

Lesson learned. Be more careful.

Good news. I went through some extra fossils I hAve and found a tibia that actually fits the foot better.

Pictured next to my bad glue job on the shattered tibia.

That's a fortunate disaster. The new one looks great. I'm assuming the leg was already a composite?

I've had worse glue jobs.

The original was the composite but the bones were found together at the same location but I think they weren't from the same animal because the toes actually fit the replacement bone that I already had better.

I think it is a happy accident because I think the league looks better it did before because the size and color of the fossils match better.

This one is still in process. I need to hit it with a wire wheel to knock off some rust on the metal and then paint it. This is for a 150 pound amethyst block. Rock hammer for scale.

Very nice, beautiful piece. Not easy to display big pieces like this, well done.

Thanks. It took a bit of head scratching. The way the client wanted it to display was opposite of the way nature wanted it to rest so it was extremely top heavy. That’s not how you want to work with a valuable piece of rock.

Here are two stands I made some years ago. I've shown both of these before on the forum, but it's been a while so I thought I'd share these here as well.

Made from just iron wire, a stand for my replica baby Psittacosaurus. All the bones are removable from the stand. Though I kinda want to redo it some day because I don't like the stand feet.

psittaco08.jpg.de8020972f5680bb879fab901a539ea9.jpg

And a stand for my Pleistocene horse foot from the North Sea. The bones are from different animals, but they fit nicely together. Again all the bones are easily removable. When making this stand I started with a cardboard prototype so that I could get the angle of the foot right as well as the wire that would hold the bones. Then I cut those same shapes out of some fibreboard, added some decorative details and painted it.

Looks great, like the idea of cutting the foot profile in to the board.

You don't have a sardine can where you could put a fossil fish in it? that would look great :D

Thanks for this thread, Bobby. I don't know why I didn't notice it until now. We sure have creative people here on TFF. So many great ideas.

Here's a knightia in a sardine can I posted in this thread  about non-typical displays about a year ago. There were some interesting ideas in that thread too.

Start the day with a smile and get it over with.

Thank you . I am really pleased with this thread. There is a lot of creative and practical stands on show here. I know it has inspired a few members to do there own project. Also lost of different material used, this is great because it gives ideas to members with different skills set some ideas .

I am still in the market for a nice fish tin but they been too small for my fish fossils. The dog has really  enjoyed the fish in a tin project because he is just fish mad . Thanks for adding the link it adds more ideas to the pot. Cheers Bobby
