That would work. I find old tins in their own right quite pleasing to look at. Advertising graphics back in the day had a lot less to do, not so much information had to be included “buy me was the only message “. I would like to do some things with old information cards that had fossil glued to but they are to pricey to purchase .

Please make a fossil in a tin display if you get the chance. :dinothumb:

My gosh, what a blast of nostalgia this card is. I had the very same one when I was a kid growing up in England, I’ve never been able to find a picture of one just like it. What a treat to stumble upon this one! Thanks for posting :)

I made a stand this morning for my

treasured specimen, small and not complete but very rare from this location or any where in the uk. I think it is worth a place on my display shelves. Coloborhynchus from Bexhill Wealden UK.

I cut and flame polished an Acrylic block . I then drilled out the block to make a well to house the fossil in safely. I made a quick illustrations and label on the computer. The printed label was spray mounted to some card and then to underneath the block. I think it is a good way to display small but important specimens that you may have in your collection.

Excuse my lack of knowledge on this, but what is "flame polishing"?

I would think heat would deform the acrylic. :headscratch:

Flame polishing is with a blowtorch with propane gas.

Yes definitely can easily  damaged the acrylic  if you move the blowtorch to slowly it will burn and blister and over heat the plastic .  it takes practice .  :dinothumb: What do you think of the display stand?

Well I had to watch a YouTube vid to see just how it was done.  You did a fine job of it. The display turned out quite well. Good job!

Good news. I went through some extra fossils I hAve and found a tibia that actually fits the foot better.

Pictured next to my bad glue job on the shattered tibia.

The shattered bone is a metatarsal, not a tibia.

A lot of welding and self-adhesive neoprene foam from Amazon for the Hadro composite foot.

Handmade oak floating frames. I left the floating arms natural because I thought it was a good contrast for the darker fossils. But maybe the fish would look better with black arms. I think the open spaces help preserve the natural shape and fragility of the stone.  I used long, heavy-duty black metal staples inserted into pre-drilled holes to hold the fossils in place. They are all locked tight.

I found the fish in Kemmerer, WY and the trilobite in Delta, UT.

Wow pretty nice indeed. Did you find the Hadrosaur bones? I have a couple of Edmontosaurus toe bones probably one of my favourite dinosaurs. That stand is really cool and skilfully made. I also like your frames style. Have you got a photo of the clips you use? Thanks for adding to my thread. All the best Bobby

Here are the metal clips I used to hold the fossils in the frame. I insert them into pre-drilled holes. The holes are on the tight side so the clips can't slip out.

I made another acrylic stand for my  Cube-shaped poop that is unique to wombats and the natural world. I do like the look of the stands.

Today I made the stand for a deer jaw I have . The stand come diorama or standarama is made from a wooden base, coat hanger wire and a little bit of modelling material. But because of the lockdown I can’t get any minuter deer figures but i did add some flamingos I had in stock just for a fun place holder.

The Deer Jaw was given to me by Doren. He sent me a message later about it and I thought I would include here because it just shows how generous he was .

”Just to let you know, the deer jaw was from one of our late members that passed away last year Dominic Cioffi ( FossilClaw ).

I purchased that from him very shortly before he died, so it can be considered a legacy piece.”

It is very sad that Doren and Dom have passed but Mrs R said I have to enjoy the fossils that  Doren gave to me because that is what he really wanted. Also Dom liked to making his own stands too. If you look at this thread you will see some stands that both Doren and Dom   have made.

Thank all for reading.

Be safe and sound Bobby

It is very sad that Dom and Doren have both passed, but Mrs. R is a wise woman! You need to enjoy the fossils they gave you and the good memories you have of them. Remember the good times my friend, it helps with the bad! :commiserate:

Yeah I felt a little emotional making it but I started to enjoy it after a bit. I am going to make room for the stand tomorrow on my display shelves. I thought it was nice to add some sentiment to this thread as both Doren and Dom have contributed to it.

thanks for you kind words I really appreciate it  Bobby
