Distinctive pattern on outside surface.

Outside surface is curved and seems part of larger circumference.

Material is very dense and cannot be scratched with metal.

Break edges on the inside is very square.

OP says it can't be scratched with a knife and the first picture shows concoildal fractures. Not sure on this one.

I'm not seeing any Schreger lines at the breaks. :unsure: 

I'm in the Pet wood camp for now, pending better pictures of the ends.

If it's a proboscidean tooth fragment, there couldn't be schereger lines, but I can see similarities with mammoth  molar plates.
