Yankeetown, FL Echinoid Hunting!

WILDKYLE

Recommended Posts

Hey guys! Here's something a little different from me... Echinoid Hunting! This was an extremely fun and productive fossil hunt, finding some of the oldest fossils Florida has to offer.

In this video you even get a tour of my fossil-filled vehicle, which could have been a whole video in itself hahaha! You may also notice a quality change. We got some sweet new gear!

Give the video a watch if you're interested and have some time! :)

Looks like the weather was pretty good too.

Love it that those echinoids need so little prepping.

Be careful no one steals your car, i'd hate for you to lose the chicken.:)

Great video, great fossils, and great job cleaning up your site! You set a great example for the rest of us.

Any idea on the species of echinoid you guys found?

Thank you! We want to do our part... and make up for the people who didn't, as we see here :(

The species is Eupatagus antillarum.

Cool! I will have to look that up. I posted a heart urchin yesterday, macraster variety, from Duck Creek formation in Texas. Here if you would like to see:

Wonderful example of what we all should be doing (trash pick up when fossiling)!!!! Easy to do if you just incorporate it into part of your habits. Thanks a lot!!!

Phosphate pit rock paved all of the dirt roads in Melrose, FL. and still do in most in the rural areas.  I stop at all of them that I can and fill up

the car with echs, teeth, and shells.  Loads of the stuff out there. Thanks for the most interesting vids.

There's definitely no reason not to take some time to clean up while out fossil hunting!
