hrguy54 Posted February 5, 2019 Share Posted February 5, 2019 I was given this around Christmas. It had a gray "dusty" coating. Upon cleaning/prepping it now looks like this. Wrangellian Posted February 5, 2019 Share Posted February 5, 2019 I thought that's what they called a 'denture clam'! Lots of common names for it, I guess. Bubbles would usually be a red flag for fakes, but it otherwise looks real to me - not unusual for any fossil mollusk to be filled with natural matrix - and I'm not sure why anyone would fake this relatively easy-to-get taxon (though I don't have one yet!) Not shore about the pockmark at the end of the shell are but it is not really the type of fossil that is faked.
