I found these bones in north texas wilbarger county. They where in a gray clay about 20 feet down in a creek. Figure possible pleistocene. Large portion of the bones where together..except for the skull. Is it a bison calf or something else. Thanks for any input.the jaw is about 11 Inches

Hi welcome to the forum from sunny Florida. It would help if you rinsed off the mud and took a few more angles with measurements. Thanks!

Looked like a muddy but fun adventure, Lol. The teeth look like camel teeth but if they are modern most likely bison like the guys said. Take a look at this member's @Harry Pristis tooth gallery and do a comparison.

I appreciate all the help. I have vertabrae and long bones I can post pics of. Which would be the most help? Also on the vertabrae there were small disk of bone attached. At this site I have found tusk pieces

Do you have a metacarpal or a metatarsal bone?

This is from a whole bison I found recently. From what I understand it can be difficult to differentiate between bison and cow based on the teeth.

I think the easiest is with the metacarpal, metatarsal or skull. The female skulls ar not as distinct as the male bison skull.

This is a bison metatarsal. C82F4951-19F1-487F-BFB2-2AA347D97A20.thumb.jpeg.d84a989fd5e90e330851574f2461b59c.jpeg

You may may be interested on my bison post and be able to compare your bones with mine. Yours may be older though.

Very cool finds by the way. There is some nice preservation on those bones. Are they completely mineralized and hard?

Mine look and feel like very old modern bones, but that is often how Pleistocene bones look in this area.

A lot of the county is Holocene which is considered modern. There is some Pleistocene. I is the greenin the upper right and the bottom left a brighter yellow.B31EE3AC-DAE3-4DE2-BC1C-E55DD6390AE2.thumb.png.9ee7e0c420c73fa1fdf05f0aa549b40b.png

Thanks again for all the input. Yes it falls in the yellow area north wilbarger county. I do understand it could be redeposited material. I will clean more bone up to examine better. My big question is the teeth in lower jaw. Bison have 3 premolars and 3 molars the back (m3) of which is three crowned. This jaw has the third tooth from the front (p3) as three crowned not two as in bison. Little wear on back teeth so hard to tell there. Would this be some type of deer? Heavy short bones but narrow ribs. Just seems odd.
