Hi TFF friends,

How are you?

Lately i am trying to id to tooth i have found few month ago. The tooth i have found has on the paper shared characteristic with Kourisodon tooth.

I would like to have a visual confirmation but kourisodon tooth pictures are rare.

If you do own a kourisodon tooth in your collection, could you please send me photos of this tooth?

Thank you very much.

David.

That's rather interesting, David! :)

And I know someone who could help, too...

@fossisle Didn't you find a Kourisodon specimen?

Opalised fossils are the best: a wonderful mix between paleontology and mineralogy!

Q. Where do dinosaurs study?

A. At Khaan Academy!...

Hi Cristian and David

I found a jaw with teeth from the Campanian Pender Formation near Courtenay B.C. but it is Tylosaur. Much more robust teeth compared to Kourisodon.

The type specimen for Kourisodon is in the Courtenay Museum. The paper was written by Elizabeth Nichols and Dirk Meckert

@fossisle on this picture it look like they have light facets on the buccal surface and striae on the lingual. Can you confirm that?

@David in Japan If you haven't found the Kourisodon paper yet, here it is: Vancouver Isl. marine reptiles.pdf

@fossisle Could we see a picture of the tylosaur specimen you discovered? :)

-Christian

P.S. Rick, isn't this the specimen you found?

Here's a little trick ;) Make a search in Google Scholar; once you find the result you were looking for, there is sometimes the word PDF next to the title - click on that, and you will have the entire paper :)

Thanks Christian, there were also sclerotic plates associated as well. When I found it all the jaws were covered and I broke the end off of a concretion sticking out. When I looked at the break there was a 2" tooth staring back!!
