Vertebrate Ichno Fossils from Bama

Rockin' Ric

Recommended Posts

Hello Y'all! It's been awhile...I recently acquired several track fossils to add to my collection. I think these tracks were made by a Cincosaurus Cobbi. They were found at a renown ichno fossil site here in Central Alabama about a hour drive from my home. I have been there twice and found mostly cool plant fossils but these are really downright cool especially the ones with fossil fern fronds on the shale plate. I thought I'd share them with you. Hopefully when the weather warms up and there's more daylight I will be able to visit more of these sites to add these cool fossils to my collection!

Those are amazing!  Somehow they are better than an actual skeleton at conveying the image of living animals.

Ric,

I was taking a closer look today.
Does this one show actual skin impressions??

It sure looks like it, to me.

Hey Tim, I shot a close up of the track in question and didn't see any highlights of skin impressions? I believe the way the pic was shot, the angles and shadows cast upon the stone surface may have looked like the impressions you speak of...It does look like it when you point them out on this picture. Here is the pic I shot with a magnifying glass. Does it look the same on this shot?

Sorry @Rockin' Ric , I missed you posting thes.

It still looks like some interesting looking lines in the lower palm area.

I would take some play doh, and try to gently press it into the print, to see if you can pick up any detail, that way. ;)
