Nautilus in situ?

Hey all.  I found this at a local quarry.  It looks like a nautilus shell to me.  I'd appreciate some other opinions.

It sits upright really nicely on my desk.  Thanks!

It looks like the Eocene Eutrephoceras carolinensis to me.

The location, preservation colour and size would all seem to be a match.

Nice specimen! :)
Where was it found, in NC?

I think it was from the Castle Hayne quarry near Wilmington.  That same day we went to another nearby quarry whose name escapes me. I'm 90% sure it was Castle Hayne though.

That, sir, is awesome...(you can't see it but my eyeballs have turned heart shaped and are bulging from the sockets)....lovely Nautilus, that is a score.

Very nice!  That is not a common find.

Don

Definitely Eutrephoceras carolinensis. Not complete, but a decent one.

Don, I would not call them uncommon. I have had days in the past at Castle Hayne where I have found 3 or 4 of them.

This must have been a while ago. The other quarry near Castle Hayne, Rocky Point has been closed for several years now.
