beachbum
Need help in id'ing this piece of jawbone. It was found in a creek near Arcadia, FL. this past Sunday. The jaw bone also has 3 teeth in it . The scale on the ruler is in cm. Thanks!
digit
The camera (as usual) was more interested in focusing on the background than the fossil. A few clearer photos (possibly taken from a bit further back and then cropped more) might be useful. I saw this in your overall spread from that trip and was drawn to it. Glad it is singled out here. Without consulting any comparative material and just going on the size, you might start your search with raccoon. Cheers. -Ken

Actually, glad to see that my off-the-cuff possibility for an ID on this one has some traction. I've found a few of these over the years. Some obviously modern (given the coloration of the teeth) which were gifted as oddities to passers-by in canoes while standing in the Peace River fossil hunting. Some might actually have been old enough to be pre-fossils or genuinely old. Cheers. -Ken
