Astro
Found these in local creek whose source is the local Emmitsburg MD. One was encased in sandstone. The other in some other more grainy stone. If you look close, the grayish one has tiny bumps uniformly along the side. I may have scraped some too much. Any ideas on if these are fossils?
SailingAlongToo
From the photos provided, these all look geologic (rocks) to me. ynot
I agree that these look like non fossil rocks. The tan one looks like a concretion. Darwin said: " Man sprang from monkeys." Astro
Ok Thanks. Im not skilled at scrapibg, so i wanted to post the pics first, before i attempt to remove the sediment casing both are in. The gray one has what appeared to have a boney substance protruding at all corners with a serrated edge. I will try to scrape it until all the other material is exposed on it. The tan one broke during scraping, but there was a line of material going across the diameter, that looked like the same outer material with some sand in between it. Astro
It seems I am finding a lot of rocks in these shapes/formations in a wide and varying set of locations in Emmitsburg. I am also finding a lot of chert, which a local archeologist tells me is not naturally occurring in these areas. Being a layman, that is just interesting. I found what appeared to be an arrowhead made of chert as well. I thank you all for responding!
