Illinois mushroom?
I found this in a load of river rock on a job site along with several geodes. The load came from a local river quarry. I think it's a mushroom but I really have no idea.
DPS Ammonite
A fossil mushroom is unlikely since no 3D fossil mushrooms have been found. It probably is a concretion, nodule or geode. http://www.thefossilforum.com/index.php?/topic/90546-10-fossil-mushrooms-ever-found/&tab=comments#comment-990833 1 My goal is to leave no stone or fossil unturned. Illinois mushroom?
It does have what appears to be crystal formation inside the knob. So geode makes sense. What would cause it to form in this shape?
ynot
Looks like it is a geodized crinoid calyx with a little bit of the colmal left. Darwin said: " Man sprang from monkeys." Will Rogers said: " Some of them didn't spring far enough." My Fossil collection - My Mineral collection My favorite thread on TFF.
