Hi friends, I am hoping to have an opportunity to go Arizona and get away from this cold winter weather here in Canada.  If I can pull this off, I will be staying near Chandlier Arizona.  Does anyone know of any sites I might be able to go wander in?  Where are the fossil site in Arizona?  I need to get myself there!!

Hopefully someone will direct you, but as a general rule, people tend to be very secretive about their sites. But I wish you luck!

oh!  I never even though!  I'm not looking for anyone's secret spots!  I was just hoping I could get pointed in some general direction as I've never been to Arizona before.  Like is there certain Parkland there that might have things I could see.
Thanks for the tip facehugger! :dinothumb:

If You go to the petrified forest, then there is an area near Joseph city that is open to hunt Chinle formation wood.

I suppose it is there whether You go to the petrified forest or not.

Fossil hunting is easy -- they don't run away when you shoot at them!

Tons of Triassic wood on the rim around the Holbrook football field, from chips to 60 foot trunks.  Look at Google Earth.  Any legal issues hauling fossils back into your province in Canada?

Yup.  You can even see whole trunks in the ground if you zoom in.  I read an article years ago that concluded that the trees were thrown down during a violent flood event which stripped them of their limbs, hence the trunks lying around today.

Thanks very much for the tip!  Yes, there probably would be issues if I was hauling anything, but I am trying not to get into trouble, so I am content with just seeing things!!!

I have never heard of any restrictions on tourist taking invertebrate or plant fossils out of the US.

You can always mail them to Yourself if You are worried about carrying them through the horrors of the modern airport.
