Great teaching tool!

Imagine having that archaeopteryx skull next to modern day raptors, egrets, ducks and songbirds!

Well I also have a replica Velociraptor skull and skulls from a goose and heron. So yeah, I should make a comparison photo some time. Good idea! thanks!

Last month my dad also printed this rather nice scan of a life size Stegoceras skull which I then assembled and painted. The detail is really great.

That looks well cool, may I ask what process you used on the paint job to get it looking authentic.

It's quite simple actually. I used a darker brown as a base colour and made sure it covered everything. I then dry brushed several tints of lighter browns and yellows on there to highlight the shapes and give it a weathered look.

Cool, will give that a try, what does dry brush mean as not done that before.

that means making sure the paint brush is not very wet. It should be fairly dry and not a lot of paint on the brush so that the paint doesn't flow into the cracks. Instead the paint will catch on the raised areas, and thus it will accentuate them.

How do you get them so smooth? Do you use an extremely thin filament or sand it down? I can't see any lines.

Hiya

No sanding required, just used the High Quality Setting using a CR10S-Pro, Geeetech1.75mm filament & 0.4mm nozzel. Takes alot longer to print on HQ, but worth it 20200322_103645_copy_3024x1470.thumb.jpg.dbdb6a18a17059fdbf58961f64f72c8c.jpg20200322_074630.thumb.jpg.aa99ebf776530b5fbde42a8719d9e7f8.jpg

Marble PLA come out rather good to, just need to add the teeth.
