Amber inclusion photography

Recommended Posts

britishcanuk

Hi,

I am wondering if someone could suggest an immersion fluid that would have similar refractive properties of Amber in order to get photos of inclusions. I am looking for a fluid that will not damage or degrade the amber piece and can be cleaned off when done. Thanks for looking.

Maybe the oil used in oil-immersion microscopy.  Never tried it for amber, but it seems like a good prospect.

Baby oil works for me. It’s pure mineral oil with no additives. I’ve heard others use olive oil. Worth trying these as immersion oil is per rata hundreds if not thousands of more money.
