TonyC
Had the chance to do a little hunting at Venice Beach while on vacation. Didn't find anything of size and the teeth were pretty common ones. Lot's of really small teeth and ray teeth. Some nice coral pieces. Was hoping for a Hemi but no such luck. What was really cool were the "boulders" they were using to help stop beach erosion.
digit
You did well for beach hunting in Venice. Worn surf-tumbled teeth are the norm there. Agreed the chunks of rock they used for erosion stabilization are enough to get any fossil hunter's heart racing. The modern chunks of coral skeleton appear to be (in the top photo): a piece of digitate Porites on the left and fingers from the coral Madracis mirabilis. http://www.coralsoftheworld.org/species_factsheets/species_factsheet_summary/madracis-mirabilis/ Cheers. -Ken
jcbshark
Nice finds for the beach, in between Manasota and middle beaches sees less pressure then some other spots and may be worth the walk if you have the time Every once in a great while it's not just a big rock down there! Rowboater
The coral looks nice; different than what I find! Good hunting!
TonyC
I was in the surf using this sifter I picked up in down town Venice. Called the Shark Tooth Sifter and it worked pretty good. I raked the drop area for the most part.
