Hi, Everyone

I happened upon this rock while hiking somewhere around the vicinity of San Gregorio Lake near Cuba, NM. Is it more than just an interesting shaped rock?

Thanks!

Hello Jewel, welcome to the forum :)

It looks geological rather than biological to me. To confirm either way we’d need several more photos from different angles and a ruler for scale.

based on the rock shape, color and metamorphic look. I would say this does not look like a fossil. I would hold onto it though. For possible further Identification.

I would guess this is an igneous specimen...look into quartz monzonite. It is a cool rock and one I would have pocketed as well. ;)

Thank you, everyone, for your responses! I really appreciate it.

Although I don’t see his comment in this thread, one member observed that it looks like an “early donut prototype”. Cute!
