Help! Really weird looking rock

Rock?!  It's been glued together. :wacko:

 

Obvious questions...where'd you get it?

What is the size?  A ruler next to it in the picture would really help.  Need more pictures from different angles and one of open/ broken end.

IMO it could be one of those banded stones (not sure which, the only ones I know of as of this post that are crafted into things like those are onyx and chert) that have been shaped into an egg and someone dropped it (or smashed it) and it broke into a hundred pieces, then glued back together.

I have a hard time believing that a chert nodule would fragment like that. A chert nodule would more likely bounce when dropped and I don't see any impact marks that would indicate it has been pounded on buy a sledge. It looks more like a broken pottery piece so I would lean toward a more brittle type of rock.
