Dinosaur skin?

This specimen was said to be a dinosaur skin fossil.  There is no information on the locality. What do you think?

Without location, pass on it. It doesn't look like the Skin impressions you usually see from North America.

Agree it does not look like what I've seen as skin.  Looks reptlian

It actually looks a bit like Placoderm armor, to me.  :headscratch:

I agree with the other members in this post. This particular specimen does not look like any of the dinosaur skin impressions identified as such, from North America. It is very interesting though.

I agree with the others too, as another possibility I've seen ganoid fish head plates that look just like that (e.g. Dapedium).

That's definitely a type of skull. Likely fish.

Is the bone tetrapod looking enough to warrant consideration of a stem tetrapod such as Greererpeton ?

I was just told by the seller that the fossil specimen is from Xinjiang Province, China.

It couldn't be a turtle skull bone (paretial)? Some turtles have an ornamented skull too like somes fishes.

It's the case for Solemydidae (like Naomichelys speciosa from the Albian of North America and Helochelydra nopcsai from the Barremian of the Isle of Wight).

I have consulted a Chinese fish fossil expert and he just confirmed that this piece belongs to the skull shield of a placoderm species.  Thanks all for your advice.
