Hi,

 

Does anyone ever see black nautilus fossil before? I saw this fossil in online but is kind of too perfect so will like to seek advise from you guys, is this a fake fossil or over process nautilus fossil?

Colors on fossils heavily depend on what minerals are present and leaching through the soils the item is fossilized in and which is the dominant replacement mineral.

Fossils can be found in colors that pretty much span the spectrum because of this.

Look up Hematite ammonite and you will see many examples of black ammonites.

I concur with tidgy's dad, it is a nautilus of the Cymatoceras genus.

growing old is mandatory but growing up is optional.
