Possible Eocene Horsetail?

I found this in western Washington in the renton formation 38 million years ago.
I don't think this is a horsetail because I don't see super defined nodes. But if anyone knows what this could be let me know.

Some photos in better lighting and a close-up will reveal more info, but it appears to be Cordaites.

Looks like it but these are only 38 million years old. Would those still be around?

I guess the formation is 38 million years old but there is a coal mine nearby. It could be carboniferous. The coal there looks very well formed and shiny. I can see my reflection!

In theory...hmm, I think cordaites died off about 250 million years ago? So that would not match the Eocene for certain.

oth, it would fit into the coal mine/Carboniferous scenario.  Your sample does not look like it came from a coal formation, though it might have been on top of or under a seam.

I found it in a stream with a coal seam along side it.

Is your camera capable of taking larger photos?

From what I can see it could be a palm leaf pinnule or some type of monocot.

I'd go with the suggestions Wrangellian and Rockwood proffer. Collecting life for me ends with the Permian being the youngest formations I see. I did some digging around and apparently the coal mines are associated to the Eocene. These may be an interesting read (or not)

This one has a generalized listing of fossilized plant life found:

This one does make a vague reference to Equisetum sp. in the Eocene

You might try a different tail. Cat :)

 Typha ?

I was thinking cat tail because unlike a palm, there are no inner stem markings. It seems like a simple reed of some kind I guess
