It's interesting though... There is no such thing as 'just a rock' - What kind of rock? How did it form? We may never know, but I'm curious. The matrix looks like limestone.

I just said "rock". I didn't depreciate it with a "just". Of course one could go into more detail. Take a guess.

It looks like chert in limestone. Any idea regarding the name or age of the formation the rock is from? Where there is limestone there might be fossils.

I must have misread that.

Instead of guessing I'd prefer someone to come along and tell us what it is, if anyone recognizes it (like DPS).

I'm not seeing any fossil here, personally. 

Limestone with chert looks like a good possibility.
