Cenomanian ammonites part 2 ; Mantelliceras saxbii and Schloenbachia varians

this evening part 2 of the preppwork on the ammonites we found this weekend:

 

Next up is a Schloenbachia varians of the Cenomanian of Cap blanc Nez in France:

the 2nd one of the evening was a Mantelliceras saxbii found by Natalie from the same location:

The specimen is a little compressed and I thought that the center wasn't preserved, I was wrong.

Sometimes its nice to be wrong.  Must have been a nice surprize.

indeed, most of the time it is the opposite, you think you got a nice specimen, but when you start to prepp there is nothing left in the matrix :wacko:

Very nice.  What is your final step, darkening the specimens?  Are you using Rember?

No, I use paraloid B72 it darkens the fossil a little and consolidates them. Since they are from chalk it is best to consolidate them.
