FossilNoob6969
This was another interesting thing I found as a kid in my backyard. There are a few of these on the rock. And theyre definitely not bolts. It is not threading. They are layered rings.
CSimpson176
Looks like a crinoid stem to me! However, what is the size of it?

Its a bit thicker than your average pencil. Too dark out now to measure. I will put a ruler to it tomorrow.

I agree with the crinoid pluricolumnal possibility. CSimpson176
Those pictures seal the deal! Keep on looking, may be able to at least find longer stems!
abyssunder
Thank you for the pictures. They are crinoid stem fragments. Try to find a good geological map of the area. Jeffrey P
That crinoid stem looks very much like ones I've seen from Upper Silurian/Lower Devonian limestones exposed just north of Rosendale, N.Y. If they were found near Newburgh my guess is they were deposited there by a glacier. A lot of interesting glacial material found in the Newburgh area.
