digit
Another gorgeous creation! At this point, I hope you are selling some of these (or at least giving them away to friends and family) or else every flat surface in your house will be littered with clocks. I like the clear glass toward the center--it looks like it has some very Saturnian "rings" in it. Can we see this up against a neutral background? Cheers. -Ken

digit
A few years back, I devoted quite a bit of time and effort into learning how to use a lathe to turn wooden bowls (tons of free tropical hardwoods down her in South Florida--especially after storms and hurricanes). Production of these pieces quickly outstrips the available open horizontal surfaces in the house. Many many were distributed to every friend and family member I came into contact with--much like large zucchini squash in a bumper-crop year. I still have some of my favorite pieces--many filled with fossils and other oddities--decorating virtually every room of my house. I've sold my lathe and bandsaw but plan on buying newer (and better) equipment when I'm relocated in our new home (whenever we finally find it). A turned wooden bowl full of fossils may appear on a forum auction one of these days. Much as I feel that the best part of fossils is often the search to find them, the process of turning wood into beautiful and functional pieces was the great joy in woodworking. I suspect you enjoy designing and producing the stained-glass creations. Cheers. -Ken
ntrusc
Thanks Ken, would like to see some pics of the bowls if you have any. You are right I enjoy designing and making these, each one turns out differently depending on the ammonites, the design, and the glass. Lots to learn and an endless amount of designs to try out. Ive attached a pic of the clock with a clearer background to show the pattern on the inner glass (clear baroque). Kind regards Neil.
digit
Very nice! I watched some artists working in glass back in my college days (the glass workshop was not far from my dorm). A fascinating medium that I'd love to try out some day. Maybe I'll start with stained glass as that doesn't require high temp furnaces. I'll have to grab the camera and snap some photos of the remaining bowls around the house with their diverse contents. Cheers. -Ken
ntrusc
Hi all, another glass lamp with ammonites, I haven’t ground these completely flat, just polished the outer to show the sutures instead of just the chambers. Thanks for looking, Regards Neil.

siteseer
That's beautiful work. A couple of weeks ago, while in the Gainesville, Florida area, I just happened to see other glass-and-fossils artwork. One was a Bearpaw Shale ammonite ( i think, maybe one from Madagascar) but with the head and tentacles done in glass with remarkable effect like your pieces.
