IKatelin
These are some of the fossils we collected from our first trip ever to the Calvert Cliffs in Maryland. Is it possible to ID any of these items and name the animal they came from? I used pictures and great descriptions from thefossilguy.com for most of my research. I think #5 is a Porpoise earbone. (wife says no way) Because of its flat surface, I am guessing #4 is either a peice of skull or part of a turtle shell. #3 might be a small vertebra since it has points on the sides and top...maybe from a tail section? I thought #1 & #2 might be identifiable because of the curved smooth sections. I assume from limbs, but I couldn't find anything like them on the web. #1 is 1-1/2" wide #2 is 2" wide #3 is 1" wide #4 is 1-1/2" wide #5 is almost 1" wide Any help is appreciated. We are definitely hooked on collecting. Good luck to everybody going Oct. 9-11. We can't make it...but please leave some stuff for us, I think I have the wife talked into going back on the 24th. As of now, it's a 3-1 vote, but somehow me and the kids don't have the majority... funny how that works. Thanks again, Rob
Frank Menser
Ok...Not the expert here 1 looks like a palatine bone from a fish (poss enchodus). 3 looks like a vert to me too. 4 looks very turtle. 5 I think is just a rock. Auspex
#s 1, 3, and maybe 2 have "the look of vertishness" about them; marine mammal. #5 is not of organic origin (it's hardened and eroded clay). No Enchodus here, Frank, all Miocene.
